Diets for Osteoporosis

Diet for osteoporosis may include foods high in Calcium and/or Vitamin D.  Vitamin D helps with the absorption of calcium.  Supplements/Vitamins may be sufficient for some people.  Please consult your doctor or nutritionist for which diet would be most appropriate.

Foods High in Calcium:

  • Broccoli

  • Carrots

  • Cheese

  • Collard greens

  • Green beans

  • Milk

  • Rhubarb

  • Spinach

  • Tofu

  • Yogurt

  • Ice cream

  • Beans

  • Lentils

  • Fish with fine bones (sardines, kippers, herring, salmon)

  • Dried fruits

  • Nuts

  • Ovaltine

  • Chocolate

  • Cocoa

Foods High in Vitamin D:

  • Fortified milk and dairy products

  • Fish oils

  • Cereals

  • Note that Vitamin D can be produced by the body with exposure to sunshine.
